Folded Thought of the Day:


Through an open window overlooking a cobblestone street 
scattered with torn broadsides, you hear an odd tune, playing 
over and over.  A rickety piano captured at the edge of our 
sanity straining to provide the merest of backbones for the 
harmony, with a haunting string section and the recurring 
influx of a pump organ.  

Downstairs, an empty parlor will allow you to get your 
bearings.  Let it all sink in.  

Eyeing the staircase, what do you imagine?  What lies 
waiting at the top?  Remembering stories of balcony 
indiscretions and mischievous curtained doorways.  Will 
the handrail reveal any inclination?  

Was this all a result of an accepted invitation?...or did 
you arrive of your own accord?  Wondering if you are here 
to capture a glimpse or to settle in...and become part of 
the setting.  

Be careful, don't think you can apply your understanding 
within these walls.  Forces are at odds, applied from all 
sides -- and this recurring dream is what holds them 
together.  So kindly refrain from imposing your will, 
there is no space here for such futility.  

Beneath your feet the steps creak.  And the stairs 
shudder at your thought, swaying to the song's rhythm.  
A golden glow is being cast from above as you ascend, 
its halo growing with each step.  It's only a matter 
of time now.  

Reaching the top you will instinctively know which 
room to enter, the song growing with the door's 
opening.  You now here a voice you didn't notice 
before -- a tired growling vocal line lying beneath 
the song's surface...imbedded in the grooves of the 
78 a long time ago, before the tracks were ever laid 
down.  Can you make it out?  Will you ever?...

In the corner, beside an open window, you can make 
out a silhouette -- seated, with head resting against 
an open palm.  And you will understand that the person 
belonging to the silhouette has been here for a very 
long time.  And although he is very aware of your 
presence, he has not raised his eyes to acknowledge 
it.  He simply sits listening, feeling the breeze 
from the window, waiting...
