Folded Thought of the Day: ------------------------ You know, when I was a young lad my daddy hired someone to sit me on his knee and give me the occasional bit of advice. My dad was a busy man, what with being an astronaut and race-car driver (when he wasn't foiling international terrorism and battling world hunger), so it was understandable that he wasn't always around to keep me on the straight and narrow. The man he hired smelled a bit funny, sort of a mixture of cheese and brine -- which might explain why I always get a little nostalgic when eating pizza while scuba diving. Anyway, the things I learned back then have stayed with me until this day. And I thought it might be a nice idea to share some of these items of "simple wisdom," in the hopes that they enrich your life as much as they have mine. First of all, I was told over and over that one should never steal another person's property, or hurt anybody out of spite or malice, or, no matter the circumstance, drink coffee out of a cup with a funny saying on it. And when it comes to love, there will be those people that love you for who you are and others that love you for who you aren't -- those who love you because of how you look and those who love you because of your position in life. But it doesn't matter. As long as they love you and are willing to lend you money at 3:30 in the morning and no matter how many times you insist, they won't allow you to pay them back. Don't believe it when people tell you that you can't do something. No matter how many family members or friends or teachers or coaches or employers or police officers or psychologists or federal judges or US Presidents tell you that you can't do something, you just pay them no mind and keep believing in yourself. Birds can not explore the ocean's depths. And fish can not soar through the clouds. But man can do both (with the help of a lot of expensive machines). Which means we are superior and are free to do whatever we want with the ocean and the sky and... well, everywhere for that matter. And some day we'll make outer-space better just like we make every place that we grace with our presence better. And finally, never underestimate the power of a simple smile, a kind word or a locomotive. Whether or not these little nuggets of wisdom will help you with your life, I can't say. But I hope they give you some insight into why I view the world in my unique way and inspire you to do likewise. I thank you for allowing this moment of sharing. ------------------------
