Folded thought of the day: Here are a few of the New Year's Eve plans I have received. Please keep them coming. "I plan to spend my New Year's Eve in the mountains. Going to a remote lodge at the top of the San Gabriel Mtns...staying in a cabin right behind the lodge...going to the party at the lodge (no need to drive anywhere, cabin is in walking distance)... then spending New Year's Day with good friends and the serenity of the mountains! Perfect plan for me!" -- Cheryl (Wow! That sounds great. There's nothing like the serenity to be found in the embrace of a mountain's magic.) "I'd hoped to be in NYC for the holiday and will. Only will be working nights in a high tech ICU. Will be interesting to see if the hospital is really Y2K compliant since everything is computerized." -- D. Smith-Collins (Yes, let's hope that Y2K is kind to hospitals everywhere.) "I plan on staying at home this New Year's Eve. I know that sounds kind of boring, and I'm sure that's what a lot of people are planning on doing. We plan on playing Pictionary & Monopoly & watching movies all night with our 8 year old son. I think he's at the point where he'll remember this in his future. So I want to make it as memorable as possible. I'll be taking pictures for his little sister who's only 2 so she'll have something to look at when she asks about the Millennium. I hope we all have a fun & safe New Year's Eve." -- S. Mccray (I second that sentiment for a fun and safe time for all. Seems a lot of folks are planning a quiet New Year's Eve at home this time around. Whether this is due to Y2K or the number of people that will be out that night, it's certainly understandable. Don't worry about sounding "boring" to others, just celebrate to your heart's content and don't look back.) "Our New Year's Eve plans consist of driving from Pittsburgh, PA to San Diego, CA to watch the last sunset of 1999, then hopefully still being awake to see the first sunrise of 2000! We're driving so that we can stop and party in all the great places along the way, Memphis mostly, to help get us in the 'spirit.' :)" -- J. Krone (Cool! Maybe I'll see you in Memphis. When will you be there? I love the last sunset to first sunrise idea.) "In Newfoundland we will welcome the century first (in North America) because of time zones and thousands will be gathering on the St John's waterfront and at Cape Spear. Our plans are much more modest. We value family above all and wouldn't dream of being apart at such a time. So we will gather at our secluded cabin on the shores of Notre Dame Bay. We will welcome extended family and cherished friends and there will be singing, dancing, good food and fellowship. Our children will sing songs passed down from their Irish ancestors and teach us a few new ones. At midnight we will gaze across the ocean and thank God for 150 years of life in this wonderful country but also for the fact that there is a glimmer of hope that there will be peace in the land they left so many years ago. The wood stove will keep us warm and if the power goes off we will light the oil lamps as we did in our childhood. We won't worry about computers or stock markets because the really important things will work just fine. A very Happy New Year to you all." -- T. Martin (Thank you for sharing this. It seems you have a beautiful and blessed New Year's Eve on the horizon.)
